I'm in heaven

Yes, it is true. lol. I am so happy right now that I found the different places where Pride and Prejudice was filmed at. I am going in April to these different places! Dude, i am so getting my photograph taken at Wilton House which is pemberley!!!!! I can't wait. I've been researching different houses and castles in the area. I think they are all cool. Got to print out a lot of stuff tomorrow. :D Super excited woot woot.

The presentation went well. Five minutes of hell. I didn't speak correctly but I was scared. She just stares at you with ugly eyes and i wanted to die. lol. But i am glad I don't have to do it again. Now, I get to worry about taking more night photography and getting things done for my professional studies class!!! ARGH. Oh yeah, my essay too! I am halfway done with it. I just have to figure out if I am doing it the right way. I am going to ask my C&CS teacher this week. lol.

Tomorrow is working in the studio and then going to shopping at ASDA for thanksgiving! Yes, we are doing thanksgiving over here. I guess I have to take a lots of photographs to document it. lol. I think I might pass my camera around to get some good shots. lol.

FRIDAY! I am going to LEEDS!!! I am going to pack thursday morning. I am going to be cooking all day thursday after this. I am going to die but at least my train is later. I gotta take the bus over there too. lol. Should be interesting. :D

Well, that is pretty much it. Time to go back to read Myths and Legends of Britain and Ireland. :D YAY!

Canterbury

It is beautiful. I fell in love with it as we first entered the city. You could see the towers from the Cathedral and then the castle watch towers. It was truly amazing to see. It was cooler when it was dark... here is a photograph of one of the towers...

Skipping to the Ghost story of Nell Cook...here is the ballad. so cool....the place where she was buried is called Dark Entry. It is really dark when you walk through and it is creepy! If you walk there around 9pm on a Friday night and you feel like someone is breathing down your neck you only have a year to live. =/ So, i am not going there on a Friday night. lol.

At the time of Henry VIII there was a Friar who lived near to the Dark Entry in the Cathedral Precincts. The Friar who, in rank was supposedly a Canon, had a servant by the name of Ellen Bean. For some reason, and probably to amuse himself, he always called her Nell, or Nelly, Cook. I too shall call her Nell as that's the way the story's told.

Nell was quite a pretty girl although her real claim to fame was that she was a genius in the kitchen. So much so, that there was a great deal of dissension among the other clerics of the Priory of St. Saviour in that it was considered that the Canon lived too well. None of this bothered Nell who was, of course, gainfully employed at a place of work that she enjoyed. However, this peace was to be disrupted when one day a rather attractive and brash young lady came to stay with the Canon.
The Canon stated that this was his niece and that as her Father had been called away on business overseas, it was his Christian duty to take care of the young lady. However, from the time the 'niece' walked into the house, things changed. There were sumptuous meals required every night with lots of wine followed by the couple singing and dancing to music not fit for a cleric. If this was not enough to arouse the suspicions of young Nell, the fact that the young lady's bed did not appear to have been slept in since her arrival, did. It seemed that Nell, unbeknown to him, had 'a bit of a thing' for the Canon.

Carefully, one evening, Nell place a poker and a pair of tongs in the young lady's bed. When she next checked the bed they had not moved from where she left them. As a result, the next night, Nell crept up to have a peep through the keyhole of the Canon's private chamber. What she saw did not amuse her. She decided upon her only course of action and went out the next day to purchase the ingredients for a "Warden Pie" for the couple that night. The Pie was a particular favourite with the Canon but this time Nell added an additional item to the Pie.

The morning after, the Canon did not arrive at the Priory and eventually the monks came to his house to find both the Canon and his young lady poisoned as a result of eating the Pie. What a scandal there would be if this was found out! A midnight service was held in the Cathedral by the monks and the Canon and his 'niece' were laid to rest under a flag stone in the nave.
What happened to Nell? .........Nell disappeared.

Nothing was heard of Nell again until one day, three Masons were called to repair a flagstone that had become loose in the Dark Entry. When they lifted the stone, what should they find but a skeleton huddled in the corner of a pit dug under the stone. Beside the wretched find was a small piece of the crust of a "Warden Pie"!

Within a year of making this grisly discovery, all three of the Masons were dead. Two of them were hung for the murder of the third. It was the death of these three unfortunate men that started the legend of Nell Cook. However, there have been others since that have supposedly seen the ghost and suffered the same fate.

Consequently, no local person is likely to tempt fate by walking through the Dark Entry late on a Friday night. For whoever sees the ghost of Nell Cook will die within the year!

I walked through and it is creepy!!! lol. It was creepy before I even heard the story.

These places have so much history and tradition it is really amazing. I wish I had that much so I knew so much about where I came from and not being lost. i just love it.

I know there is more to be said like I saw New Moon twice and laughed. yes. i laughed. lol. Hmm... I don't know what else to write....

Oh yeah, been working on my paper and i have about half of it done. so I am excited. :D I need to more.

This weekend I am going to Leeds!!! It should be fun. Going to go and have an adventure by myself. :D

gotta run to deborah' bday dinner! ahhhh

The hunt for Banksy's work is going to start once this semester is over!!! I am going to search for his work in London, Bristol, and other places along our trip back from Scotland. This is the mission and I must at least see one piece or I will get mad. lol. After viewing all the books and articles about him, I want to stencil something in a tunnel here in hatfield. LMAO. But I am too scared too. lmao.

painting with light on whitney

where does the time go?

okay, I officially forgot what I did tuesday night. if you know please me know because i am totally blank. no i didn't drink or anything. i have been too busy with things. OH YEAH, I did my CV and Artist Statement....wooo. I thought I was losing my mind.

We booked the trip to Amsterdam yesterday!!! I am totally excited. I can't wait to see the Netherlands. I think it is going to be beautiful. We aren't staying in Amsterdam but a town about 9 miles away. I guess we can rate bikes from the hotel and take bike riding trips around the area. I am going to try to do some night photography there. I think it might look pretty cool. Oh, cute british boy James commented on my status. :D yeah, i am a nerd.

Yesterday was movie night. It was fun. Made some good stir fry! It was yummy. I might need to make it again soon. I think chicken noodle soup next time. We watched P.S. I Love You!!! :D I cried...i hide the tears from Whitney and Faye pretty good. lmao. I wonder if they saw.

Today was good but busy. Went to asda to get prints, picked up my package from Kelly!!! She is the best! She shipped BAKED COOKIES from home! I can't believe it. Also, a 50 dollar itunes card! I was shocked. She surprises me all the time. Also, some socks. mine are stained and gross. lol. I went to the LRC to do research and got some done but I think I am going to have to stick with Banksy because there isn't even information on Camille Rose Garcia online and they don't have books on her here.

Crap,i need to put more money on my phone. =/ this sucks. No more doing stuff. lol. No more calling Laura anymore. Cost too much money. this really sucks. Less communication with home.

Anywho, I need to edit photographs then go to bed to wake up early and do wash.

marianna

The British Museum...

So, i am in love with the british museum. oh my gosh. i am live there. i almost cried when i saw the west pediment of the Parthenon. I wanted to go and hug the figures. it was totally a dream come true. I was like so amazed and with my mouth gapping open, yes i looked like an idiot. I am going back there again and sitting in front of it. I can't wait to go to Greece to Athens to see the whole thing. I am going to cry fat tears there. I took over 500 photographs, so I will be editing them sometime soon but I don't know when. I am extremely busy this week. So much to do and craziness.

Dude, people are rude...

i swear the think that no one has school tomorrow. It is freaking annoying when people are sound like they are screaming outside my window. I swear, one day I am going to go crazy and call security on their butts!!! I just want some fresh air coming into my room but that isn't happening. =(

also, people don't understand how to move when walking around. seriously if I don't move at the last moment they would run into me. or if i am standing waiting for the bus, do you think they would give me room and go around me, nope. they almost hit me while going around me. I know I am fat but dude, i am not that fat man. It makes me mad. They just run into you and then they get pissed at you. don't get their concept.

okay, now they are getting quiet outside and i can finally go to bed. Gotta wake up early for school. blah. it should be interesting tomorrow for the print making oh crap, i gotta bring money for the kit!!! THEY ARE TAKING ALL MY MONEY. Just spent 10 pounds on supplies for it today. =/

good night. sorry for complaining.

Beef Stir Fry!

Yes, I made beef stir fry! It was absolutely lovely!!! :D I was so excited about it all day.

I did my presentation today and it went well. I suck at speaking but it is all good. British kids are talking to me more. So i am thrilled about it. i know i sound lame. lol. Stayed in the studio for about four hours and did the transfer. I am going to make it thicker tomorrow.

So, I walked home after the dinner and researching prices for the amsterdam trip and our scotland/england trip!!! it actually rocks!!! I am thrilled about it. Michael came over and hung out with us all...Whitney and him are cuute together. lol.

But the walk home was funnn!!! It was foggy and cold...check the temperature and it was 37 degrees out. yes, almost freezing and I just had my sweatshirt on, three layers of shirt. I am a moron. I didn't know it was going to be that cold.

Here is a photograph from tonight:

I will upload the other ones tomorrow when I get to the studio. i am going to bed. i am dead right now.

good night. miss you all

Read, Read, Read

I spent half my day in my room cleaning, and doing wash. The second half in the LRC. I spent about 3 hours in the LRC researching and reading about Banksy. There is a lot of fake stuff about him on the internet and it is pissing me off. Sorry to cuss but dude, DONT POST FAKE STUFF ONLINE! IT ISN'T FUNNY WHEN YOU ARE DOING A REPORT ON THE "GUY". If he really is a guy, totally kidding. I am getting fed up with researching him. People have too many opinions and you don't know if half of it is true!!! Oh dear, going to go crazy on this subject. Just wait i am going to go to Bristol for two days and photograph the graffiti and street art there!! YAY! Then i will spray paint something there. yeah right, i would feel like crap doing something like that and a total poser. lmao.

Some quotes I like from him...:

"Think outside the box, collapse the box, and take a fucking sharp knife to it." — Banksy

"All artists are willing to suffer for their work. But why are so few prepared to learn to draw?" — Banksy

"Because so many artists, they worry about what trends are happening in art and design and street art, they read too many magazines, and they are too wrapped up in everything; they're paralyzed."- Banksy

Yeah, so I spent way too much time reading about him and doing research. I am over it right now. lol. I am just ready to head to bed finally. I have a presentation in the morning which sucks but it should be okay. I hope I get everything right for it. lol.

Here is a photograph I took today while walking home from the LRC at 5:30pm

Yeah, I got to see fireworks while walking home from the other campus. someone was shooting them off in their backyard. it was coool! Well, good night and I will update later!!!

Welwyn Garden City is my new best friend, sorry you guys in the states...lol

Today was our adventure to Welwyn Garden City. I thought it was going to be this shady scary town but oh dear, it was AMAZING! I am in love with it. But I will tell you everything from the beginning. yes, this is going to be a looong entry. sorry my dears...

As I said in the other entry, I woke up at 10:30am. LOVELY. I finally slept in one day. I started getting ready to go meet up with Whitney and Faye for our adventure to Welwyn Garden City. Man, did i ever move slow. I finished getting ready around 12ish. But I vacuumed my room, cleaned up some stuff, straightened my desk, and made piles for the wash tomorrow. :D

I left around 12:15 to head to the other campus. It was a beautiful morning so I decided to walk. As i was walking by the bus stop the intercampus shuttle came by. I just glared at it. "Damn You Evil Bus" popped in my head. lmao. While walking, the sun was shining through the clouds and hitting the leaves perfectly. I decided a mini photoshoot! it was so much fun. I was listening to Off By One too. I took photographs for about ten minutes of different leaves and the sun hitting. It was just perfect. The best way to enjoy your day just walking around and taking photographs.

Here are some of the shots:

I have more but I didn't edit them. Yeah, it was just beautiful outside today. lovely, lovely.

Okay, back to the story, lmao. I got to the bus stop around 12:40ish. A minute later the bus comes. While getting our tickets for the bus, the bus driver kinda of gets an attitude. He is a grumpy old man. He was pleasant to any of the the passengers. Something happened to this one girl who was trying to get the bus drivers details about something or needed something but I have no idea what she really wanted. Attitude though from the bus driver. He just gave off this horrible vibe. Traveling to Welwyn Garden City was cool. I didn't know which stop to get off of so I kept looking for the name of the street we were supposed to get off on. It only took about twenty minutes or less to get there...so nice!!! :D

We found the street and got off the bus. Just walked for a bit and found the street we were supposed to go on. Walked down there for the art store and it wasn't scary until we reach the Tewin Court 1-20. Yeah, that place was creepy...Whitney said it felt like a concentration camp which it did. It was just erie. We walked all the way down and then turn left to see if Unit 1 was down that way and it was. It was on the nicer side of this werid court thing.

Okay, this art store gets its own paragraph, seriously, I felt like I was back at home. It was the most amazing place ever. They had EVERYTHING YOU POSSIBLY NEED FOR ART! CANVASES, PAINTS, BRUSHES, FABRIC PAINTS, PAPERS, SCARPBOOKING STUFF, AND ALL THIS OTHER STUFF. It was amazing. I found my stuff that i wanted to use for the photo transfer but it cost me about 41 pounds for three little bottles of the stuff to do the transfer. It is worth it. I think they are going to be awesome. :D I am going to transfer the house photograph and some other ones. I am going back to this store for all my needs later this semester and next semester. So nice. :D

After checking out the art store we decided to explore the town centre. Yes, we had to find a bathroom for Whitney first. We went to waiterose i think it was or something like that and she the toilet there. They say TOILET here instead of restroom or bathroom. lmao. It was an awesome store. Completely clean and nice. People were nice looking there and it was not shady like Hatfield. lol. When we finished there we went through the subway to the town centre but we stopped at the garden first. It was really cute and had the toilets there. I had to go to the bathroom and so i went in. BIG MISTAKE. NASTY ASS TOILETS WITH POO MARKS EVERYWHERE AND IT WAS SMELLY. I DIDN'T TOUCH ANYTHING AND LEFT. Whitney made a phone call and while she was talking, i was taking photographs of everything. The trees, the sun through the branches, and some leaves that the sun was hitting. Then Whitney told me that there were mushrooms! I headed over there and started taking photographs of the mushrooms, (they will be posted when I get them done tomorrow or the next day). Halfway through taking photographs, Faye was going to step on them. =( So I was like please don't step on them and she didn't, I was so happy I got more photographs of them. =) They have the cutest and coolest mushrooms growing at random spots.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the art in the subway...

MAN ATTACK! LMAO

Finishing there, we headed up to the town centre! Of course it was completely amazing. HUGE! Lots of shops. Like always, there was an art and craft market there which i had to go to and see!!! ;D I loved it!!!!! People were selling food, cool crafts. I didn't buy anything..i was trying not too but then I went to jewelry booth and thought of Libbi! i was like dude, i have to get her something here. It was amazing jewelry!! So my new mission was trying to find some cash. I went to the ATM and I couldn't get any cash. I was mad and thought it was a sign not to get anything. Then Faye decided to go into their little mall and guess what was at the entrance, Barclays! My bank here!!! So, I got cash out and then we went inside. We were hungry, Whitney and I. Then we went upstair and I finally got to use the restroom. In the restroom, there was a straighter so you can fix your hair before going out into the mall! LMAO! You had to pay a certain amount. I thought that was great. After our walk around the mall, we spotted a candy booth and we got candy!!! A giant snake gummy, cherry coke gummy, crocodiles, and other ones. It was great. I spent 5 pounds on candy. lol.

Our next stop was McD's. It tasted wonderful. It was great. While go into McD's, we say a photography store! After eating our food, we went to the photography store. I found some cool things in there. They also develop 120mm color film in a HOUR! yes, i said A HOUR! For much you think...5.99!!! FIVE POUNDS AND NINETY NINE PENCE. I almost died when she told me that. Then if I wanted prints too it would be 15 pounds for the developing and prints. I was like OMG.I was kinda of freaking out and i think she saw me too. lol. I am definitely going back there with my film now to get prints!!!! I am super excited.

As we started our walk back towards the bus stop, i was thinking about the jewelry lady and I thought she would have left but she didn't! So i got Libbi a gift there! WOO HOO!!! I hope she likes it. It is freaking awesome. :D OMG. the funny part is coming now. while going down in the subway, there was a cleaner guy outside his cleaning machine and we went in front of him because I thought he wasn't going to go down there. Yeah, he did. lmao. Once we reached the end of the one walkway to go to the next one in the subway, he starts coming down, the girls who were walking up ran the other way. lol. I ran to the next little tunnel and then up the stairs. lmao. oh course, Whitney and Faye were laughing...I was scared he was going to get us. lmao.

We waited for the bus about 20 minutes and then we headed to the galleria to finish our errand day. I had to get hiking shoes and a large backpack to take with me to Leeds in two weeks and Whitney needed pedometer to count her steps. So, i spent more money but I got some really cool hiking boots and a nice backpack. :D We stayed there until 6ish then headed back to our rooms.

They went to Karaoke tonight but I decided to stay home. I worked on my artist statement, and cv. Almost done with the rough drafts on those. I totally forgot I am losing one weekend for my Leeds trip and one Saturday for Canterbury trip! :D More shopping for christmas gifts. Christmas is everywhere here now!!! I want some Christmas songs. so please send some my way! lol. I also finished my presentation for Monday. I got one more slide and some more notes even though it was going to be 5 minutes long. :D

Tomorrow, I am just doing my wash and hopefully booking my trip to Amsterdam!!! ;D It would be awesome. :D Then Monday is my presentation then studio working then night shoot at Asda. i am going to the creepy tunnels. I need to do more research on scary places in the area. :D I am weird.

Well, Good night all. I love you all and miss you all terribly.

Love,
Marianna

i really hate you...

stupid shuttle...I waited over 1 hour for the shuttle to come. I didn't want to walk home by myself at midnight to the other campus. The stupid thing never came!!! I was freezing, my jacket was soaked and just cold. argh. I will write more later on in the morning but i gotta sleep! been up since 7am...almost 17 hours. wooo....good night.

EDIT:
so here is the story...

Whitney, Faye and I had a movie night on Friday. So I came back to my room from the art talk ( I had been at school since 8:40am and leaving around 4:30pm...oh yeah, waking up at 7am and going to be at 12am the night before). I get home and eat some food because I am dying of hunger. Just chilling in my room and eating while chatting with Whitney and Deborah online. It starts to sprinkle outside, not bad enough for an umbrella or anything. I leave my room around 5:20ish and had to the bus stop. Still sprinkling outside, i missed the bus, so i had to wait for the next one which comes in 15 minutes. While waiting, the rain gets harder then lighter then harder again. By the time the bus arrives I am soaking wet and frozen. lol. Not a good thing. Once I get off the bus on College Lane Campus by the Forum, it is barely raining. I get to their house and take of my jacket and it is completely soaked, yes, i did not wear the right rain jacket...don't really have one and i might have to get it over here. crap.

We watched The Full Monty and Nightmare Before Christmas!!! :D They were soo good. I left their place around 11:30ish. My jacket was still wet and so was my purse. I headed to the bus stop to wait for the inter campus shuttle. It was freezing outside and there was a cold breeze. It totally tore through my jacket and I was freezing. The wind would hit my jacket and it would be like icicles trying to kill me. lol. Damn wet jacket.

I get to the bus stop around 11:45ish and I was talking to my mom on the phone during the walking there and stuff. She was on the phone with my the whole time. I waited and waited for the shuttle. As each minutes passed, I was getting colder and colder. You could see my breathe when I breathed. It was horrible. People who were waiting their left and called a cab. Yes, I could have but I didn't have any money on because i thought the campus shuttle would be coming. It runs until 3am because of the forum!!! People kept leaving and walking to the other campus. Well, they were kinda of shady people and I couldn't really walk back by myself in the dark alone. not a good idea (but in my mind at the moment it sounded like the best solution). I kept waiting until after 1am! yes, i did. horrible. Then 602 which goes to saint albans and stops near the other campus came by, and i decided to take it because I just done with the shuttle. I had about 70 pence with me and thought it would be that much to go over there. While walking, i saw this girl Liz who I have met at a party a week ago who also lives in the same hall as me, and she came with me and two other guys. I get on the bus and say I am going to de havilland and need to by a ticket for the bus. The bus driver then tells me about the shuttle. I said I know about the shuttle but i have been waiting over an hour for it and it hasn't shown up. He then offers to drive us to de hav for free!!! Yes, FREE! I got a free bus ride! He was the sweetest guy. I think he felt bad for everyone. It was freezing and stuff and people were dying of being cold. So we get near the stop which is across the street from campus and then he offers to drop us off in front of the campus. AWESOME! It was great. One of the guys tried to tip him but he didn't accept it. I swear I hope i get that bus driver again. I will be indebted to him forever, i swear. That night could've ended worst.

I didn't get home until 1:30ish. I was freezing, and wet. Not good. Didn't get into bed until almost 2am then crashed until 10:30am this morning. I needed that sleep. It was just a crazy ass day....

Love his work...

they are trying to kill me...

I am kidding...a little bit. lol. Yeah, I started my other class today. OMG... information overload! I think they were trying to scare the shit out of us and screw with our minds. I freaked out and had a headache for awhile. So not good.

Here is the schedule we had today:
Morning Lecture: 11.45 – 12.45
Fine art practices – areas of practice and their attendant
requirements/support structure – eg, studio, materials, technology,
tech support, website, associations/ group sites (eg Axis, Saatchi,
World Printmakers etc), intro to useful support sites (Artquest, AN
– access through UH Voyager)
networking – importance of building a personal network
Afternoon Lecture: Anne Marie Kelly, Career Planning and
Support 1.30-3.00
Seminar/tutorials: 4.00-5.00
Students start Group Project 1 with research and discussion re
chosen artist, individual input, project outcome
Students start website Group Project 3
or exhibition funding Group Project 4
Students research opportunities for applications
Individual and/or group tutorial sessions

It doesn't look bad, but once he started talking I was dying. Yes, I always try to be a good student and look like I am paying attention but half of this stuff doesn't apply to me because I am not going to get a job over here after I graduate from College. Maybe I will but I have no idea. I wrote about 10 pages of notes I think. lol. I just getting all the information I could from him and the information he was giving us. They are completely vague how what they give us. I am starting to miss my ten page syllabus and all my projects from my photography and art history teachers. I miss them all! Too much freedom can really hurt your thinking process and not enough structure as well. I never knew I needed that much structure. I hope I get used to this. I just wish they had more art stores around with the supplies I need.

Okay, back onto the Enterprise and Employability lecture. It was crazy. He talked for about hour and 15 minutes on about different jobs and such then starts going over projects we have to do. Of course, we go over the time and get twenty minute lunch...all the good food is gone so I get apple juice and trail mix plus a bag of crisp. lol. The next session is from 1:30 to 3:30 yeah. it was short man, it felt like 10 hours!!!! Went over after graduating, cv's(resumes), artist statements, website, and the other projects. I still have no clue what I am going to do. I thinking about emailing photographers to see if I can shadow them at their studio to see how they run their business but I don't know how to proceed with that. I might have to ask the tutor but I don't know. I asked him if I missed a day for a trip to amsterdam next month and he didn't even care about... just turn in my work a day early. It is weird. It is cool that they are so relaxed over here. ;D

Now here is a list of the projects:
1. PROJECT 1: Individual Project: Students will identify at least one opportunity to
make a full application for and/or to take part in by the end of the Professional
Studies module.
Students will hand in a copy of their full application or a written report on the
opportunity outcome: Friday 16 December.
2. PROJECT 2: Group Project: Students will work together to create a year-group
website. This could be developed over the next two semesters into a vehicle for
the 3rd year show. (This can only be carried out if there are students with website
creation skills.) Site should be up and running or a written report on the outcome
by Friday 16 December.
3. Project 3: Group Project: Students will research funding possibilities for their 3rd
year final show and/or end of 2nd year student created show. A group report will
be handed in at the end of term, with sections by each group member: Friday 16
December.

so have to get those done soon. I swear writing an artist statement is hard. i was trying to start mine and stuff...I am completely stuck. I have no idea what really my work means who influences me and what style i go for. i just have to try and figure that out soon. It is due my the end of the month. I think I can get everything done.

Now, I am trying to get stuff for my essay done which is annoying. I am changing the image because once i saw this image Banksy did I fell in love...i am trying to upload it right now but it isn't working. i don't like flickr over here. lol. Basically it is a painter painting a portrait. On the canvas, the nude looks realistic and the model sitting in the chair for the painting is abstract like a Picasso or Braque piece. I love it so much. I didn't really like cubism and Picasso work during that time as much as other people do. I know I am probably weird.

isn't it grrreat!

Well, it is almost midnight here and I think I should totally head to bed. Gotta wake up at 8am to get to the studio then walk to asda to pick up the prints. :D I am really excited to see what they turned out like.

Love,
Marianna
